We are often inspired by children’s picture books. A beautiful world where no one comes to harm and decisions are simplified, contained, as they are when you are young. And if they feature forests then so much the better. Our latest discovery is All in a Day by Cynthia Rylant with sharp, evocative images by papercut artist Nikki McClure.
When the sun rises on a new day, it bring with it a new world of possibilities. A single day can hold work and rest, rain and sun, comforts and surprises it says on the back cover.
And the book finishes with a few lines that are worth remembering:
Underneath that great big sky the earth is all a-spin
This day will soon be over and it won’t come back again
So live it well, make it count,
fill it up with you.
The day’s all yours, its waiting now….
See what you can do.
And so this week we are going to keep the freshness of discovery that has been an element of our holiday, remember that each day won’t come back again and so we must live it well and make it count….

Since finding this book we have discovered others by Nikki McClure and there is a freshness to her work which is delightful.
Lovely illustration and those lines – how heartfelt and true; and how easy it is to forget to live like that sometimes.
