A book under a tree and new goods too!

BookPlateResizedWe are not sure who designed this book plate but its been in our ‘reference’ file for ever. It dates from the 1950’s I think and illustrates the most perfect summer past-time, reading a book under the shade of a tree.  To be honest we would rather lie on a blanket looking up at the sun dappled through the leaves than sit on a bench but any opportunity to read under spreading branches should be seized and savoured.

We haven’t been posting very often over the summer, first we were super busy, then we went on holiday and everything felt rather….flat…. on our return. There is only one thing to do under those circumstances, scale back the work and get on with living. And it’s worked, we have been some wonderful camper van trips and lovely days out and we feel inspired and refreshed.

And what have we been working on? New baby mobiles, to hang over a cot and keep a newborn happy! Each mobile will tell a story and they have been great fun to design. The first one will be up in our on-line shops shortly and I will post a picture once we have a completed a sample to show you. What else? Finger puppets, new bug and owl key rings (key chain/bag charm), some fantastic wedding bears that we have previously made to commission and now they are available to everyone.  Check out our Etsy shop here and come back regularly as lots of new stock is on its way.

Right what is next on the to do list, he says, all bouncy and energised after our break.

  1. Funny about the connection between the baby and the tree mentioned by carolyntgray above. When I had lad in hospital it was a massive heatwave – all I kept dreaming of was lying under a tree with my baby.
I’ve scaled back the work over the summer too. It’s been lovely having time to spend with lad.

  2. Good for you – glad you have returned refreshed and renewed!

  3. I’m struck there by the baby lying looking up at the mobile, and the book reader lying looking up at the leaves on the tree… It’s ‘that back to school feeling’ now though!

    • Yes, a nice thought. I have sometimes wished that you could give a baby a good book and ask them to settle down and stop crying! Maybe the mobiles will do the trick!
Back to school today. Oh the drama!
