Happy New Year

We have been travelling. Its been cold but  invigorating and lots of new sights have been seen and enjoyed. More of that later when the bags are unpacked and the washing done! LampittBlog

The image is by one of our favourite illustrators, Ronald Lampitt. If you want to find out more about his work dash over to my guest post on Stephanie Pomfrett’s blog here X  (not sure if it’s up yet but it will be very soon). His beautiful illustrations of life in 30’s to 50’s Britain remind us of the joys of sitting in front of the fire with a pot of tea and eating homemade bread and jam.

  1. Happy New Year, Michael! Have a great 2014!

  2. Hey there, I’ve just nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award, check out this link http://wp.me/p2dBQC-3tD

  3. I think Magazine art is highly under appreciated generally. I once spent two hours in a booth at an antique mall in Virginia looking at old ad art. I ended up buying a page with a fantastic winter ski scene advertising Maxwell House Coffee for my friend K Maxwell. I had it framed and it now hangs at their cottage in the Canadian Rockies. Ad art celebrated the everyday and everyone can relate to that.

    • I understand that the old ‘commerical artists’ – folks we would now called illustrators – were paid very small fees for work and did not own the copyright. Yet some of the pictures are so brilliant and they often have a strong narrative quality. Like you we are very drawn to old adverts………..and old book covers too. Your friend was lucky to receive the Maxwell House advert – sounds great and so appropriate too!

  4. Looking forward to hearing about your 2014 ventures!

  5. Happy New Year – so glad you enjoyed your travels and made it back home safely!
