Endless giggles at Hogwarts

BlogPlatformnineandthreequartersIf you are visiting London and want a moment of pure silliness head for the main concourse of Kings Cross Station. First you see the small queue and a crowd of folks taking photos with cell phones, then you hear short bursts of loud laughter and finally PLATFORM 9 3/4 is revealed.

The assistant (who seems to have endless patience) gives you a scarf and holds the end out of shot to make it look like its blowing in the wind. You pose and your friends and family take a picture of you pushing your luggage trolley on your way to Hogwarts.

This scene, repeated throughout the day, is pure, joyous, free theatre. Folks from every nationality share their moment of childish delight and laughter, embracing the possibility of fantasy and magical escape.

It makes us giggle and gets our ten out of ten for free London tourist destinations every time

  1. What a lark, ha! Nothing better than free and in London that’s a good thing

  2. It’s great – we passed it when in London just before Christmas, but didn’t stop for photos. There was no assistant to lend a scarf when we were there – nice touch!

  3. Cool Beans – that was a great scene from the movie – my son would love it!

    • Before they did this amazing renovation of the station it was actually between platforms 9 and 10 like it is in the movie. But no one really found it. Now its on the main concourse there are queues and photos….as I say in the post.

  4. Perfect! I would definitely do that on a trip to London!

  5. ;-)))) hehe that really sounds like fun, London always is full of surprises. Makes me remember a childish delight me and my mom took out of a Hobbit-photo-session sitting on a bench and getting 2 pics taken with this special camera, one pic with me in Hobbit-size and she in regular size and then the other way around …

  6. I think I am a bit past wizardry, but on the other hand maybe not, it looks fun!
