Open Studios: Family Life

Standing to attention, proud, assured like the subject of a folk art painting we saw, today’s tableau shows Ma, Papa and little one. They stand before a wooden picket fence looking out to the forest and the sea with an expression of simple contentment. Or they could be you and your family or loved ones? You decide.FamilyLifeTheBigForest1 CRcopy

There is so much detail I cannot capture in these photographs taken quickly as we packed up our work, the mothers pleated skirt with its velvet ribbon bows and net petticoats, the babies carrier, all beautifully constructed and stitched . The family stand on a solid oak base which we finished in our studio. It comes from the forests of Sussex which are a constant source of inspiration.FamilyLifeTheBigForest2 copy

Do come along to our open studios at Creative Clerkenwell, click here to find out more. We are on the top floor of the St Johns Square building (get the lift, it’s a long way up) sharing a studio with our good chum Katherine Elizabeth in Studio 53 (which we thought was next door to a 70’s New York night club…but apparently not).FamilyLifeTheBigForest3 copy

Some of the work I’ve been blogging about has already been sold, which means we won’t be on gruel and hard bread for the next month but there is so much more that I haven’t had time to show you, one off pieces, our felt animal key rings, dog brooches, woodsman brooches, construction greetings cards, cottage in the forest greetings cards, felt dog characters and an opportunity to talk with us about commissions and personalising work. One or other of us will be there the whole time but both of TheBigForest designer/makers will be there on Friday night and on Saturday.FamilyLifeTheBigForest4 copy
