Its as easy as…. analog typography

Alphabet Letters Blog 2It would be so simple to bang out some letters digitally, make them in to badges and personalise our animals for customers but the test letter looked so bland. We went down another route.

Searching through an old book for decorative fonts we found this beautiful typeface which we then coloured and tweaked before finally scanning. It took so much longer to do but the results are, to our eyes, very much superior with a roughness that digital cannot achieve. We have now spent an hour a day creating every letter except UVXYZ . No doubt we will start selling to folks with all those old school names – Ursula, Victor, Xavier, Yvonne and Zachery and regret our decision.Alphabet Letters Blog

We are mad busy at the moment, which is why the blog posts have become infrequent but soon we will be back. I must post the next installment of ‘where in the world’ and my i-phone is full of images taken for blog posts that have got no further than download. The ‘must do’ list for 2015 is filling up fast too with so many new avenues to explore and ideas to develop. We are excited!

  1. Being busy is good! Love the letters.

  2. Your typography is great and, yes, has tons of character!

    • Sometimes things turn out better than you hoped, which is the case here. There are some lovely examples of florid Victorian typefaces. Particularly liked one of animals in odd poses making up the letters.

  3. brilliant! love being busy 🙂
